FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION - letters optimally by Friday, May 8; testify at public hearing May 27.

NOW is the time to EXPRESS YOUR OPINION OPPOSING THE PROPOSED CELL TOWER at 4060 W. Amazon that will be an eyesore and more
in the heart of a South Eugene neighborhood across from
our protected wildlife corridor and bird flyway! (and please make a tax-exempt donation if possible to costs).

Recently in the news is a controversial proposal to build a cell tower at 4060 West Amazon at Fox Hollow, on the grounds of Crossfire Church in the heart of a South Eugene residential neighborhood
(setting a BAD PRECEDENT allowing towers in residential neighborhoods!)
and located across the street from Parker Elementary School - closer than the 1,500 ft. that many think should be the minimum feet from schools.

Further, the Amazon corridor is a protected area, a bird flyway and 2.8 million dollars has been spent of public and private funds to protect it.
Also, documentation exists about how proximity to cell towers can lower property values and result in lower rents.

PLEASE WRITE A LETTER OPPOSING THE PROJECT - for guidelines visit Friends of Amazon Creek site - even if you do not live near the area, your letters are needed and if possible a money donation which is tax exempt:

 Also sign the online petition.

Several neighborhoods in Eugene have seen proposals for cell tower construction, often with limited opportunities to challenge unwise aspects of the project or the whole siting itself.

However, the Crossfire proposal has sparked great public interest and this degree of citizen involvement may help put the brakes on excessive or unnecessary projects in the future.

The cell-phone industry is a growing, highly competitive field and service providers are interested in having the most coverage for the transmissions carried on their own network.
Cell phone towers are built by privately owned networks that compete with others. Crossfire has been offered 1.5-2 million dollars over the next 25 years to site the tower there!
Co-location of antennae is far preferred to siting a new base station in a residential area! Once a tower is approve, no public hearings are necessary to add many more antennae.
A Wall Street Journal article reports that at least 10% of cell towers emit microwaves beyond those allowed by FCC standards!

Agree or disagree, federal law prohibits legal objections to cell phone towers over concerns about health effects of these manmade microwave transmissions.

This applies to the local land use process that will either permit or deny the Crossfire cell tower project.

Opponents of the project are raising permissible objections--aesthetics and the environmental impact on wildlife in the Amazon Creek corridor. Pls. do the same.

The latter pertains to the effect of the transmissions on birds, bees and insects that are part of this park corridor that surrounds the creek, a corridor that extends into the Amazon Neighborhood proper.

A City of Eugene hearing on the Conditional Use Permit for Crossfire's tower is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, at Harris Hall, 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

For those of you that feel testimony at a hearing is often too late to make a difference,

please note that the City of Eugene's Planning Department is preparing its staff report and recommendations that will be presented at the hearing.

They welcome public input: Friday May 8th is identified as the date letters to the Planning Department will be fully considered in making that report.

But you can still submit letters after May 8; if speaking at the 5.27.15 hearing, pls. also have a written copy of your remarks to save staff time transcribing.
