The SMR (Small Modular Reactor) is set to go online in 2029 in North America and Europe (2026 on Hainan Island, China).? Bill Gates is building his in Wyoming, and Oregon's NuScale is building one in Idaho right now.? They use a more enriched fuel, so the waste is even worse than before. They say, "less waste" but that's because they're small.? If you need the equivalent megawatt capacity of a current behemoth nuke, you just order more than one and hook em together in sequence like batteries.? They take a year to build in a factory and a year to deploy at the site, which can be any place reachable by a shipping container.? New roads now being built through the Amazon and the new Arctic drilling should give a clue to the wide application of these poison machines.? (Also note the sudden prospect of a lithium boom in Catamarca and Salta provinces, Argentina, where a new constitution, not voted on by the people, is criminalizing dissent and restricting indigenous people.) And the poison will not be removed from the Amazon, the Arctic, the Andes, or perhaps the Willamette Valley.? After the money is made from a factory or mine or wellhead, no corporation is gonna waste money on cleanup. The nuclear industry has crowed that it intends to have "thousands" deployed by mid-century, all over the world, an eternal legacy for our descendants: cancer and mutations galore. Good luck to all of us. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... New stuff to worry about, especially if you're not eating exclusively organic.? In addition to glyphosate (Roundup - note that Europeans are stalling an attempt to renew EU certification for another ten years), dicamba (kills everything but dicamba-compliant, genetically engineered plants - which constitute 2/3 of American soybeans) - including birds, trees, neighbors' crops), atrazine (which turns male frogs into egg-laying females), and recently a new twist called "Enlist Duo" (combining glyphosate with 2-4D), we now get to stress over ledprona.? This is another indiscriminate biocide, that kills "bystanders" as well as weeds, and enters food crops sold to Americans. Stress about it or blow it off, your call.? But this is what America is eating these days.? Staying clear of the mainstream is good general advice. Blessings!c. ----- ????? ----- ???? Jaydee Hanson, Center for Food Safety ???? Christopher Logan ????? 2023?10?24? ??? ??06:08:56 [PDT]??? This Halloween, watch out for a spooky new pesticide New gene-silencing pesticide proposed for use on potatoes may soon haunt a field near you! | | | | ? | | | ? | | ? | | ? | | | SHARE THIS ALERT | ? ?facebook | ? ? twitter | | ? | | Dear Christopher, As Halloween approaches, a spine-chilling development is lurking in the shadows, and we urgently need your support to thwart it! GreenLight Biosciences is currently pushing for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approval of a terrifying new nano-scale and gene-silencing biopesticide known as Calantha, which harbors the eerie active ingredient ledprona. This chemical brew has been concocted to combat the Colorado potato beetle, but EPA?s rush to approve it, and its potential impacts, send shivers down our spines. Ledprona has already received EPA approval for use on potatoes under an Experimental Use Permit (EUP) until 2025. Yet, EPA is jumping the gun and attempting to approve Ledprona for widespread commercial use before they analyze all the data collected during the EUP period! Tell EPA: Oppose the approval of Ledprona until all data is analyzed! Ledprona is unlike any other insecticide sprayed on the field, as it utilizes a novel genetic technology known as RNA interference (RNAi) ? which has never been used in insecticides before! This is why it?s all the more imperative that we look at all available data for any potential risks before rushing towards nationwide approval of this ghastly creation. And given that these biopesticides can be applied by plane, the EPA must thoroughly assess the real-world horrors of pesticide drift. Special attention must be paid to the chilling implications for threatened and endangered species such as the American burying beetle, Hungerford's crawling water beetle, the Northeastern beach tiger beetle, and the Puritan tiger beetle, found near potato production areas close to where the Experimental Trials are being conducted and which could be direct casualties of this new biopesticide. Data on these possible grim consequences must be collected during the EUP phase and analyzed before giving approval for widespread commercial use. Tell EPA: Oppose the approval of Ledprona until all data is analyzed! Ledprona also conjures up many fears related to human and environmental well-being. While the EPA mandates the use of personal protective equipment for those handling Calantha and Ledprona, it does not require testing to determine whether workers have been exposed to these biopesticides. The extremely small scale of this new biopesticide means that careful handling and a full assessment of human health effects should be a top priority. Adding to our apprehension, GreenLight Biosciences claims that around 99% of the ingredients within Calantha are shrouded in secrecy as "inert" and concealed as confidential business information, meaning they do not have to be publicly revealed. We insist that, especially in the case of this groundbreaking RNAi biopesticide, the EPA discloses these ingredients. Tell EPA: Oppose the approval of Ledprona until all data is analyzed! It shouldn?t have to be said: EPA should not rush to approve a novel pesticide for nationwide commercial use before all of the data about potential impacts is analyzed. Can you submit a comment today? We?ve already written it for you! The deadline for public comments is October 30th, so please add your name today! Together, we can safeguard our environment and health from the potential risks associated with this new nano-scale pesticide. | | | | ?
