Tsunami Books Inc., more than a bookstore, has played a unique role as
a community and cultural arts center hosting 4,000 free or low cost family-friendly events,
celebrations and meetings for 22 years in the heart of Eugene, OR.
Entertainment and discussion flourish here in a warm inviting atmosphere.
But its future is in jeopardy.
Arts, culture, and public discourse would suffer if Tsunami Books, intellectual incubator and community treasure, is forced out of business by June 30, 2017.
Tsunami must negotiate a new lease competing with corporate entities willing to pay double its current rent. $400,000 must be raised by March 30 in a dedicated fund to satisfy new building owners that Tsunami will be able to pay its five-year lease. Without community support curtains could fall on a unique venue, the stage ripped out of Eugene’s _second living room_. No other place like it exists in Eugene.

A second pledge day will occur
Saturday March 4, 1-730 pm
at the store, 2585 Willamette, Eugene, OR 97405;
(see attached schedule)
Red Wagon Creamery ice cream, music and poetry.

A few of the 4,000 events that have been staged at Tsunami:
Organizations that present here include: The Young Writers Assn., , Eugene Playback Theater, 150 author events Eugene Opera, Vietnam Vets, Mid-Willamette Valley Writers Speaker Series, Works in Progress Readings: U of Oregon Masters Students of Creative Writing, nonprofit local and international fund-raisers.
Without Tsunami Books meeting space available at a synchronistic time, Eugene Civic Alliance may not have catalyzed momentum to build a new sports stadium especially for youth, now it is fund raising.
See TsunamiBooks.org to pledge now or stop in and shed a tear about an immeasurable loss to Oregon’s culture and arts incubator in Eugene, whose motif boasts that it is a great city for the arts!
